About This Site

The title of this site
really says it all. I am just a guy. I have don't have any affiliations
with any political party or lobby group at all. I paid for this
Web site out of my own pocket. I wrote the script for the video
based on my own research and opinions. As you can clearly see, I
am no actor. I really am no one special.
When I heard about the
referendum I was thrilled. I have been a proponent of proportional
representation since I first read about it in high school. Finally
we were going to get an election system that is actually suited
to our society and political climate. What shocked me, however,
was that most of the articles I read about the referendum were about
the lack of coverage the referendum was getting in the media. One
pundit went so far as saying they doubted MMP would win the referendum
because people wouldn't know enough about MMP and would opt for
the status quo. Weeks passed and still the referendum was getting
relatively little coverage. When speaking to people about the referendum,
it became quite clear little was known about the choices we were
being given.
The media has been dominated
by the funding for religious schools issue, yet our election system
is a much more important issue. Considering the last referendum
we've had in Ontario was about Prohibition, that really goes to
show how important this referendum is.
I made this site and
the video in an attempt to help spread the word. This is our chance
to make a lasting positive change for Ontario. This is our chance
to make a real difference and we may not get another one for many
years.
I urge you to watch
the video and read about all the issues.
On the MMP
page, I describe in plain language how the new system would work
and how it will benefit Ontario.
On the FPTP
page, I highlight the problems we have been having with our current
system.
On the links
page, I provide some other Web sites for further reading. What I
have provided on this site is an overview along with some background
information. Some of them are really great and can help you make
your decision.
Please take some time
to understand the issue. Spending ten or fifteen minutes today can
help ensure we live in the Ontario we want to live in.
I would like to thank
Bubba, Bozena, and my mom for their help in making the video and
this Web site. Bubba was the very patient videographer who didn't
roll his eyes much while I was hacking up a lung (I was sick.) Bozena
took some great still photographs and helped me with a few last
minute problems with images on the Web site. My mom gave me some
encouragement (see the credits of the video.)
